What are salicylates?
Salicylates are chemicals that are naturally present in many plants. Generally, these chemicals serve as preservatives to hinder plant’s rotting process. In addition, it also protects the plants from insects and harmful bacteria and fungi as well. Commonly, these can be found on the plant’s bark, roots, leaves, and seeds. It can also be found naturally in some foods and its compound is also used in different products.

Does freezing food eliminate salicylates?
Just as the same in cooking food, freezing it does not eliminate its salicylate content. However, there are some individuals who have salicylate intolerance who are able to eat larger portions of frozen vegetables than freshly prepared ones. It is because the salicylate level on frozen foods is relatively lower.
