What Are The Diagnosis Methods For Salicylate Sensitivity
What are the diagnosis methods for salicylate sensitivity?
In diagnosing a patient who is believe to be salicylate sensitive, the physician will initially take the medical history of the patient to know if his past medical records can be attributed in his salicylate intolerance. After taking the patient’s medical history, he will now proceed in conducting the physical exam.
One process in the diagnosis is the participation of the patient in an elimination diet. In this type of test, the patient will be undergoing a diet which will include foods with no or negligible salicylate content. In addition, the patient is refrained from using products which contains salicylates. If the symptoms disappear, the patient probably has salicylate sensitivity.
However, it is recommended that patients must work closely with their physician in the elimination diet. A sudden rise in salicylate levels may result to anaphylactic shock or severe allergic reaction which is characterized by the swelling of body tissues, sudden drop in blood pressure, difficulty in breathing, and other life-threatening symptoms.

Does freezing food eliminate salicylates?
Just as the same in cooking food, freezing it does not eliminate its salicylate content. However, there are some individuals who have salicylate intolerance who are able to eat larger portions of frozen vegetables than freshly prepared ones. It is because the salicylate level on frozen foods is relatively lower.
